Photronics announces multiple promotions; Electroglas appoints Petrus vp; SIA snags Matisoo for technology post; ASML reshuffles at the top
Gary Cappeline was named president of AlliedSignal Specialty Chemicals. He will become a member of the executive council and a company officer. He leaves Engelhard, where he was group vp, pigments and additives. He succeeds Paul Norris, who resigned to become president and COO of W. R. Grace. . . . Photronics announced several senior-level promotions. Michael Yomazzo, formerly president and CEO, will become vice chairman of the board. James Northup, formerly senior vp of North American operations, has been elected president and will oversee the company's worldwide photomask manufacturing operations and sales. Jeffrey Moonan, former senior vp of administration, general counsel, and corporate secretary, has been promoted to executive vp of finance and administration. Steven Carlson has been named vp of technology, and Steven Warshaw has become the senior vp of sales and marketing.
Varian appointed Ernest Godshalk vp and CFO of its semiconductor equipment spin-off in Gloucester, MA. Godshalk has held executive positions with high-technology concerns such as Prodigy, M/A-COM, Symbolics, and Millipore. . . . Huub van Dun was appointed vp, managing director, of Enthone-OMI in Germany. For 30 years he has been involved in the company's technical, commercial, and marketing functions. The firm has also appointed Robert Sharp executive vp, worldwide operations, and Stephen LaCroce vp, electronic materials. . . . The Knights Technology division of Electroglas appointed Edwin Petrus vp of engineering. As head of all software engineering operations, he will manage the development of Knights's existing product lines, oversee product delivery, and build customer relationships. Before joining Knights Technology, Petrus was director of R&D at Cadence Design Systems, where he was responsible for managing multiple technology projects and groups.
Semifab, which is expanding production facilities by 30%, named Marc de Leeuwe vp of business development. In this position he will be responsible for new business endeavors and overall company growth. The holder of three patents, de Leeuwe has 30 years of management experience in the semiconductor industry in the United States, Europe, and Canada. . . . CVC, a worldwide supplier of deposition equipment for the fabrication of thin-film recording heads, appointed Richard Chicotka vp of engineering. At CVC since 1995, Chicotka will oversee process engineering, systems engineering, control systems engineering, and wafer services. . . . Cabot's Microelectronics Materials Division, a global supplier of CMP slurries, appointed 15-year IBM veteran Paul Feeney to the position of dielectric program manager. He is responsible for identifying technology performance drivers and managing the R&D activities of Cabot's dielectric business, which includes managing premetal dielectrics, shallow-trench and deep-trench isolation, and polysilicon and low-k dielectric applications.
SIA has appointed Juri Matisoo vp of technology programs. Joining SIA from National Semiconductor, Matisoo has also held management positions at IBM. He will oversee all activities associated with SIA's technology programs, including the Technology Roadmap. . . . Jim Mezey announced the opening of his new firm MJM Solutions, a product design and development company, of which he will be president and CEO. Previously with Applied Materials and Lam, he was president of Concept Systems Design, a developer of epitaxial reactor wafer-processing equipment. . . . Michael Volosin left Olin Microelectronic Materials to form AnalysisNow! Located in Chandler, AZ, the new firm will provide trace analysis of ultrapure water and chemicals. . . . Arch Chemicals (formerly Olin Microelectronic Materials) has chosen Tom Talasek as manager of its diffusion systems business. Previously he was at Koch Microelectronic Service, General Chemical, and Texas Instruments.
The semiconductor and electronics division of EDS appointed Christopher Kraft to fill the new position of vp, manufacturing sciences consulting. Formerly at Texas Instruments, where he was responsible for analysis and design optimization of TI's worldwide IC design WIN process, he has experience in the client side of semiconductor manufacturing and information technology. . . . ASM Lithography has announced the retirement of its chairman and CEO Willem Maris, who took the firm to the No. 2 spot in the global lithography equipment market. He will be succeeded by Doug Dunn, former CEO of the consumer electronics division and the semiconductor division of Royal Philips Electronics.
. . . Extraction Systems, a supplier of air filtration systems and instruments for monitoring and controlling airborne molecular contaminants, has announced that ASML's Richard George has been elected to its board of directors. George is director of step-and-scan marketing for ASML. . . . Tosoh has named Michael Morris vp of marketing to direct global sales activity and customer/supplier partnerships. . . . Mike Luttati has been named director, worldwide sales and service, of Eaton Semiconductor. Before joining Eaton, he spent 15 years with Teradyne.
