Cleanroom on display

Cleanroom technician Todd Emerick, right, and Neal Julien, a research professor, use an electrostatic field meter to measure the charge on an FPD glass substrate in the new open-access cleanroom at Brevard County Community College in Palm Bay, FL. Behind them, a manually guided loader for transporting FPD pods is undergoing shock and vibration tests. Opened earlier this year, the $1.8-million facility houses Class 10,000, Class 1000, and Class 10 cleanrooms totaling 15,000 sq ft. USDC, the display consortium in San Jose, provided design and construction assistance. Lepco of Houston was the contractor. The facility was built to provide low-cost cleanroom access for scientific research, economic development, and education. Information: 407/632-1111, ext. 22351.
