Technical/Business Programs

With last-minute help from the local fire marshals, SEMI has squeezed all exhibitors for Semicon Southwest 98 into the Austin Convention Center. More than 800 booths featuring over 630 semiconductor equipment and materials companies are expected to fill the reconfigured halls at this year's show. A full docket of technical, business, and educational conferences and symposia—including the return of the International Electronic Technology Manufacturing (IEMT) symposium—is on tap as well as a week's worth of standards meetings at the Marriott at the Capitol Hotel.

Kicking things off Monday afternoon, Oct. 19, will be the Second SEMI All-Industry Forum, "Setting New Goals for Global Cooperation," which was originally scheduled for Semicon Europa earlier this year. According to SEMI president Stan Myers, the forum will include discussions of ways to work together on reducing the cyclicality of the semiconductor business, such as improved capacity planning and control. The event's original emphasis on setting new goals for global cooperation between the chip industry and its suppliers will continue to be an important part of the agenda.

On the social front, SEMI will sponsor the "Blues and Brews" reception on Tuesday, Oct. 20, offering a chance for exhibitors and attendees to sample some of Austin's finest microbrews and favorite musical sounds. Of course, there's plenty of action in the (in)famous Sixth Street entertainment district for those wanting to double their pleasure and fun. And while y'all're at the show, stop by Booth 2247 and say hello to the MICRO staff.
