Kern appointed to YieldUP board; Garber joins Lam; Miller takes gm post at Millennium Automation; Sematech names Duffin ESH director

Jerauld Cutini has been promoted from executive vp to president of OnTrak Systems. Cutini is a cofounder of the cleaning and CMP equipment company, which was purchased earlier this year by Lam Research.... Roger McDaniel was selected by Fluoroware to replace the late William Reed on the company's board of directors. Reed was the former president of SEMI. McDaniel retired in August as the CEO of MEMC Electronic Materials to become president and CEO of IPEC. Fluoroware also promoted Dave Ring to vp. Ring is the gm of the company's wafer management business.... Ronald Bannerman is the new director of strategic alliances at the equipment-leasing firm Comdisco Electronics.

Werner Kern, president of Werner Kern Associates, has been appointed to the board of directors of YieldUP International, a manufacturer of substrate cleaning equipment. Kern, who received the 1997 SEMI Award for Process Technology, is known for his work with the so-called RCA clean, which he helped develop during his 28-year tenure with RCA.... Lam Research has appointed Craig Garber vp of corporate finance and treasurer. He was formerly assistant treasurer and senior director of treasury operations at Applied Materials....The new gm at Millennium Automation is Robert Miller. Miller retired recently from the U.S. Air Force, where he served as a project officer with NORAD.

Patrick Mehall and Larry Reader have been named CFO and vp of field operations and projects, respectively, at Mega Systems & Chemicals in Chandler, AZ.... Vitesse Semiconductor named James Mikkelson CTO. He has served as vp of IC operations since cofounding the chipmaker in 1987.... Meissner + Wurst has appointed John R. Frank, Jr., senior vp in its manufacturing technology group. The subsidiary of the German firm Jenoptik designs and builds cleanrooms.... Farid Durrani was named vp of manufacturing operations at MicroDisplay, a manufacturer of miniature AMLCDs for consumer electronics applications.... Asyst Technologies has appointed Michael Romani to the newly created position of vp of customer satisfaction. Romani joined Asyst from KLA Instruments, where he served as director of field operations.... Mark Wincent has joined Filtration Group in Joliet, IL, as business manager, molecular filtration. Moldan Nonwovens, the company's business unit in York, SC, named Robert Prince production manager.

Sematech has named Bob Duffin director of ESH. Duffin was assigned to the consortium from Motorola's semiconductor products sector, where he served as an engineering and projects manager. Duffin is the chairman of the Industrial Advisory Board for the environmental research center established by the National Science Foundation and the Semiconductor Research Corp.... Thin-film process equipment supplier CVC has promoted David Kolczynski to director of manufacturing. He joined CVC in May 1996 as assembly manager.... Martin Aalund has been appointed director of electrical engineering at Smart Machines, a San Jose­based robotics manufacturer.

The semiconductor equipment group of Watkins-Johnson has promoted William Uhlemann to vp, purchasing and materials.... Deepak Mahulikar has been selected development manager for CMP products at Olin Microelectronic Materials. Mahulikar is a 16-year veteran with Olin. The business unit also appointed John Maguire business and product development manager for polyimides in Europe and named Dawood Abugharbieh sales and marketing manager for North America and the Far East.... Ion Systems has chosen Jim Shatting to fill the newly created position of director of Asia/Pacific operations. The supplier also promoted Glen Zamanian to managing director, global accounts.

The new director of semiconductor products at Implant Sciences in Wakefield, MA, is H. Paul Maruska. He joins the company from NZ Applied Technologies, where he worked as manager of optoelectronic materials development.... Greg Snell has joined the EcoSys division of Advanced Technology Materials as vp, marketing. Snell most recently worked at FSI International as CMP business manager.... Ashland Chemical has made two appointments in its electronic chemicals division. Richard Robideau was named the unit's sales manager for the United States and Europe, while Michael Pregent was appointed to the newly created position of manager of customer support.

Cleanroom construction specialists Daw Technologies selected Michael Shea senior vp of sales and marketing.... Simco Static Control and Cleanroom Products has named James Curtis sales manager. He joins the Pennsylvania-based firm from NRD, where he was national sales manager and product manager.... Michael Ryan is the new director of sales at Techni-Tool in Plymouth Meeting, PA.
