Levy, McDaniel join Trikon board; Genus appoints Aldeborgh COO; Verteq names Romm CFO; Fluoroware promotes Peterson to corporate scientist

Nikon Precision has promoted executive vp Shoichiro Yoshida to president of the lithography equipment manufacturing subsidiary of Nikon. Yoshida was also appointed vice chairman of SEMI's board of directors for the 1997­1998 term. He is the first Japanese vice chairman of the board.... Henry B. Smith III has been appointed president of the Leica Microscopy Group, North America. He held several executive positions at Becton Dickinson before joining Leica. ...The new president of Material Research Corp.'s advanced materials division is Kenneth Barry. He is the former vp and gm for the division. MRC also appointed Thomas Kandris vp of global business operations. MRC's new vp of business development is Peter Szasz, formerly director of global account management for Lam Research.

Kenneth Levy, chairman of the board of KLA-Tencor, and Roger McDaniel, the former CEO of MEMC Electronic Materials, have joined the board of directors of Trikon Technologies. Brad Jones, a general partner of Brentwood Venture Capital, has left the board. Brentwood was the lead investor when Trikon was formed in 1990. Based in Chatsworth, CA, the company manufactures etch and deposition equipment.... Consilium, a supplier of manufacturing execution systems, has named Frederick O'Such to its board of directors. O'Such is the president and CEO of financial services company Xertex Capital.

Harold Bridges has been named vp and financial officer of Olin Microelectronic Materials. Bridges has worked for Olin for 20 years in financial, manufacturing, and administrative positions. The division also appointed Murrae Bowden director of research and development of its semiconductor photopolymers group.... Genus has promoted John Aldeborgh to COO. Aldeborgh comes to the vendor of deposition and implantation gear from LTX, where he was director of manufacturing for the Massachusetts -based test equipment company....John Livingston has been appointed vp and CIO of Electroglas, a manufacturer of automatic wafer probing and information-management products. Livingston most recently served as vp of information systems for Adaptec.

The new CFO and vp of finance at Verteq is Preston Romm. Romm is the former CFO/ vp of finance and administration at STM Wireless. Taking the new post of vp of engineering and technology is Richard Riddle. Verteq manufactures wet cleaning, etching, and stripping systems... RTP tool manufacturer AG Associateshas appointed Kirk Johnson to vp of finance and CFO. ... Glenn Wienkoop has been appointed executive vp, subsidiary operations at Cognex, a manufacturer of machine vision systems. Named to the newly created position of senior vp of engineering is Henk Schalke.... David Coleman is the new CFO for Air Enterprises. The Akron, OH­based firm makes custom air moving and conditioning systems.

MKS Instruments has appointed Joseph Maher, a former vp at Lam Research, to a vp post at the vendor's process control instrumentation group.... Dean Freeman has been named director of WJ-2000 business development for Watkins-Johnson's semiconductor business group. The WJ-2000 is the company's advanced cluster platform for CVD processes. The business unit also promoted Matthew Watson to vp of business development and strategic marketing, James Bondur to vp of research and development, and Mark Danna to vp of design engineering. Promoted to quality systems director for the group is Debra Vogler.

Charlie Peterson has been promoted to corporate scientist at Fluoroware.... Solution Technology, a supplier of CMP slurries, has appointed Rob Rhoades to the newly created position of manager of applications technology for CMP.... Ashland Chemical's electronic chemicals division has named Dawn Ward business director of its Ashland-ACT business unit. She most recently served as technology manager for the unit. Comdisco Electronics Group, a provider of equipment management services, has selected Richard Towner as its new regulatory compliance manager.

Peter Plaza has joined building contractor DPR Construction as senior project manager. Plaza has overseen design and construction of semiconductor fabs as advanced technology project manager for Turner Construction.... Jacques Kools has been appointed data storage PVD product director for CVC.... The new technical support manager for Agema Infrared Systems is Philip Gregor.

Therma-Wave has promoted three sales executives. The vendor of metrology and inspection tools appointed James Rhoades to vp of sales, named Robert Germain manager of international sales, and selected William Warren national sales manager.... Empak, a manufacturer of cassettes and carriers, has appointed Richard Lemons vp of worldwide sales and marketing.
