No market barriers
Increasing chip complexity, the introduction of copper, and strong demand
for communications microchips will combine to drive global sales of all
dielectric materials to the $2.44-billion mark through 2005, says Business
Communications of Norwalk, CT. In a report titled RGB-243: Evolving Dielectrics
in Semiconductor Devices: Opportunities for Materials and Equipment, the
research firm estimates the overall market in 2000 at $1.21 billion. Sales
of materials for interconnect applications will dominate the market segment,
growing at a 15% average annual rate. Sales of dielectric materials for
gate applications will grow at an average annual rate of 22.5% to approximately
$1.5 million during the same period. Capacitor-related materialsthe
smallest market segmentwill experience sales growth at an average annual
rate of 13%. Tool manufacturers stand to benefit from these increases,
the report says. The market for dielectric deposition and process equipment
will grow at a 24.9% average annual clip to $6.5 billion in 2005.
