Supply Chain Update
E-biz firm debuts at show
A new e-commerce Web site made its official debut at Semicon West
in July. The firm, SemiSales.com, announced it had 27 semiconductor materials,
equipment, and service companies as charter members. The products and
services available in what SemiSales calls an "Internet marketplace" include
substrates, chemicals, consumables, CMP slurries and cleanroom services.
In addition to product listings, the site features specifications, quality
certifications, and company profiles. The address is http://www.semisales.com.
Compaq vet hired as veep
A former Compaq Computer executive has been appointed executive
vice president of supply chain management at netMercury.com. James Eckelberger
will handle all operations logistics and supply chain development for
the e-commerce site. The company was established in March 2000 by the
merger of Teleparts International and THT Sales. Eckelberger served most
recently as vice president of global integrated logistics operations at
Compaq. The new vice president has nearly 40 years of supply chain experience.
At his retirement as a rear admiral in 1991, he had served 31 years in
the United States Navy, holding a variety of posts that included senior
aviation supply chain manager for both the U.S. Navy and the Marine Corps.
